QRC Culinary 

As the tourism industry continues to thrive so does the demand for skilled chefs and culinary professionals to join the industry. Great opportunities are being created in New Zealand’s world-renowned restaurants, hotels and resorts.

A QRC Certificate in Culinary Arts will equip graduates with the skills needed to work within the hospitality and tourism industry, in the field of cookery.

QRC provides industry immersion as part of all programmes. Students have the opportunity to observe and work in hotels and restaurants, alongside some of the best chefs in the Northland region. This ensures all students are prepared and confident to put their skills into practice in a fast-paced commercial environment.

QRC Culinary is located in Kerikeri, in the beautiful Bay of Islands. The regions emerging tourism and hospitality industry and access to the best local fresh produce, make it an ideal location to study culinary arts.

Programme at a glance - Level 34 Months – Level 3 Certificate in Culinary Arts.

Graduates are awarded the QRC Certificate in Culinary Arts (Level 3).

Level 3 Certificate students will graduate with a solid understanding of the core cookery principals required to work in a commercial kitchen. Graduates can enter the industry at this level as a Junior Chef, or continue studying at Level 4 to further their skills and knowledge of the Culinary Arts.

Entry Requirements

The Certificate is open to students 17 years and over. Successful completion of culinary studies at Level 2 or equivalent is desirable.

Programme at a glance - Level 48 Months – Level 4 Certificate in Culinary Arts.

Graduates are awarded the QRC Certificate in Culinary Arts (Level 4).

Level 4 Certificate graduates will be equipped with the skills and knowledge to produce complex dishes in a commercial environment, enhancing employment opportunities across the hospitality sector. Students will be trained to utilise creative thinking, modern cooking techniques and high safety standards. Graduates will enter the industry as an Intermediate Chef or pathway into the QRC Level 5 Diploma of Culinary Arts.

Entry Requirements

The Certificate is open to students 17 years and over who have successfully completed study in the Culinary Arts at Level 3 or equivalent.

International students

If English is not your first language, you are required to show a minimum IELTS Academic score of 5.5 with no band below 5.0 (equivalent tests accepted).

Diploma of Culinary Arts (Level 5) - coming in 2018

QRC will deliver a Level 5 Diploma in Culinary Arts in 2018.

This programme will provide students the opportunity to advance their education and careers in the hospitality industry. The 12 month programme will feature a 6 month internship which will allow students to gain valuable industry experience.
